Snow days are complicated in a small business. Should we close early? Open later? Stay closed all day?
Safety is always a priority. I try to remind myself: it’s just cupcakes. And while that’s true, it’s also our team’s livelihood: the way they make their car payments and buy Christmas gifts for their families. And to our customers, these “just cupcakes” are weddings, birthdays, cancer-free anniversaries, and “thanks for scooping my driveway” moments.
It’s a quiet pressure and a weight that many small businesses feel but rarely talk about. Then, the second-guessing of a decision you thought was the right one. If you’re a small business also weighing those decisions, know that I see you and I understand.
When a storm (real or forecasted) keeps people away from small retailers, it is a profound blow, especially at this time of year. For every meteorologist studying the models, there’s a small business owner doing the same with their financials, breathing deeply and trying not to worry. They’re praying they’re making the right decisions for their team and customers, and wondering if anyone will even come.
Would people even miss us if we were gone? Oof.
So, hey. If weather or road conditions kept you away from our store the past couple weekends, we hope you’ll browse our website or pick another day to visit and shop before year-end.
In fact, this weekend is a great time to stop by, as we host Gather and Glow – our own Small Business Saturday Redux! With free treats, special gifts and blowout prices on items perfect for gifting, it’s a joyful way to support small business!
Because I can assure you that like any small business, the treats and gifts in our shops were made and curated just for you, with love. They’re ready to be chosen, for your own joyful gifting whenever it works for you. Whether today, or another day this Holiday season.
Be safe, be warm, and gather with joy.
